Product Reviews from January’s GLOSSYBOX Canada – Part 1 (Nivea Essential Lip Care & Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion)

Hi readers,

Today I’ll be sharing my opinion on some products from January’s GLOSSYBOX Canada. I’ll be splitting my review in 3 posts just so I don’t overwhelm you with a looong one. Today it’s about Nivea Essential Lip Care and Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion.

Note: Prices are in Canadian dollars.

Nivea Essential Lip Care

I’ll just share a little background info about my lips before I tell you about this product.

I used to be a HUGE lip balm addict, had been since middle school. I was addicted to the lip balms that dry out your lips so you need to keep reapplying them for your lips to stay moist. Wherever I would go I always needed a lip balm in my pocket because I had to reapply every 20-30 minutes or so (yes it was that crazy). If for whatever reason I could not reapply and my lips went dry for even 30 minutes, I knew that later that day or the next day my lips would be peeling.

Last spring (2012) I reached a point where I just had enough, I had to stop. I went through 4 weeks of extreme discomfort where my lips went through so many different stages of dryness, and finally I was FREE! Don’t get me wrong, I still hydrate my lips. My current lip care routine is Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion followed by Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil to seal it in. When it wears off my lips still feel moist and I only reapply Burt’s Bees 2-3 times a day (every 3-4 hours or so).

Now onto this product… I really like it. I find it creamier than Burt’s Bees and it stays on my lips longer. When it eventually wears off my lips still feel good and it does not dry them out (like the lip balms I used in the past).

I don’t quite know how to describe the smell, but it’s pleasant. It’s not a strong smell and it has a sweetness to it.

Will I buy this product? I won’t make a run to the store just for this product, but if I’m passing by lip balms and I think about it then yes I will pick it up.

This product retails for $2.00.

Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion

This body lotion is intended for normal to dry skin. My skin is more normal to oily so I only use it on my hands since they tend to be a bit more dry cause I wash them often.

The formula absorbs quickly and it’s not really greasy.

The smell is something different though. Sometimes you get a whiff of honey, other times it smells more like that strong milk smell, which I do not like.

The hydrating side of this lotion is good and lasts long, but the smell is not good (not for me). I use it when I go to bed that way I don’t have to smell it since my hands are hidden under layers of blankets. And when I wake up my hands feel soft, but the smell is still there – faintly.

Will I buy this product? No because I do not like the smell.

This product costs $6.99 for 70g and $12.99 for 170g.

  • That Burt's Bees costs quite a bit! I guess my Aveeno costs just as much, though. I used to be a huge lip balm addict too but now I've just resorted to biting my lip… Which is actually much, much worse, lol.

    • Yes that Burt's Bees is a bit pricy. I love my Aveeno and I'm sticking to that one!
