Monthly Empties: October 2013

Hello everyone!

It’s November already?!? Time sure is flying by!

Here are the products I used up in October. I also started using my foil packet samples because my stash is ever so growing. I realize that for those I can’t always give a full review since most are one-time use, but usually it’s just enough to see if you want to invest in the full product or not.

Body

Aveeno – Daily Moisturizing Lotion
And here it is again! This is the small pump format, I bought it because it was on sale. And if you look closely you’ll see that it’s cut in 2. I always do that at the end because the pump doesn’t pump out all of the lotion and I want to use every last bit.
Repurchase? YES! I always do.

Bath & Body Works – Body Wash in First Bloom
Another repeat item. This scent came out this summer and the bottle is bigger than their regular format. The scent was ok, but I was glad to finish it. Sometimes at the store you can’t smell it very well cause you’re overwhelmed with all the scents in the store. This was one of those items.
Repurchase? I always do, but in different scents.

Bath & Body Works – Deep Cleansing Antibacterial Hand Soap in Wildberry Freesia
Another repeat item, and the last repeat for this month. I always buy these soaps. This scent I liked.
Repurchase? I always do, but in different scents.

Biotherm – Age Delaying Hand & Nail Treatment
I bought this at Shoppers after trying a sample and I really like it, but it’s quite pricy (around $30 if I remember correctly).
Repurchase? No, there are many other creams that work just as well for a smaller price.

Garnier Body – Refreshing Gel-Cream for normal to dry skin (instant absorption)
I’m pretty sure this sample came from Shoppers (I’ve had it for quite a while). Since this was a gel it absorbed very quickly, but I didn’t find it very hydrating and almost wanted to put on my Aveeno on top of it. So I’m not sure how effective it would be on dry skin. Also my hands were really sticky after applying it and I had to wash them, which I found odd.
Purchase? No.

Face

Bioderma – Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution for sensitive skin
Got this sample from Shoppers. I used it to remove my Halloween makeup and it worked really well on my eyes. It even removed my waterproof mascara without a hitch.
Purchase? Maybe once I need a new first step makeup remover for my Clarisonic.

Biotherm – Aquasource 24h Deep Hydration Replenishing Gel for normal/combination skin
I got this from my sister-in-law after I told her how much I liked Clarins HydraQuench Cream-Gel. This product is very similar and I liked it just as much. This one has a little citrus scent that I really liked and found perfect for the morning.
Purchase? Possibly. Once I finish my Clarins I might just give this one a try.

Clinique – 3-Step Skin care
I got this sample from Shoppers. I used to use Clinique in my early 20s, but then it kind of stopped working for me.
1 Cleanse – This cleanser worked well, just like my regular one. Lasted one time.
2 Exfoliate – Wow this one smelled strong, woo! And it’s that chemically kind of smell too. Lasted 1 time – the contents is a moist towelette.
3 Moisturize – This one lasted a few days and my skin felt the same as with my regular routine.
The samples didn’t wow me enough (or at all) to go back to Clinique.
Purchase? No.

Hera – White Program Cleansing Foam (purifying, revitalizing, brightening)
I got this sample with my Amazon Haul. This is like a cream cleanser – it doesn’t really lather – and it has very few scrubbing pieces in it, but not enough to be considered a scrub. I didn’t think it would work that well since it felt more like rubbing lotion all over my face, but my face felt great once I was done. I wasn’t a fan of the smell though, it was kind of granny-ish. I have to say that the redness in my face seemed to be toned down after using this though, which I really liked.
Purchase? No, mostly because of the smell.

N°7 – Beautiful Skin Quick Thinking Wipes for all skin types
I bought this at Shoppers and they worked ok, but they didn’t wow me.
Repurchase? No.

Simple – Eye Make-up Remover
I got this Sample from Shoppers. It worked ok, but it really stung my eyes.
Purchase? No.

Simple – Refreshing Facial Wash Gel
I already did a full review of this one so I’ll keep it short: I really like it. It’s hard to find in stores though. I checked my local Shoppers, Rexall and Loblaws and none carried it.
Repurchase? I wanted to but I couldn’t find it so I bought something else.

Skinfood – Facial Water Vita-C (Cream)
I got this sample with my Amazon Haul. Wow, I loved this one! It made my face feel really smooth. It had a very light smell that I couldn’t quite make out, but it was pleasant. It only lasted about 3 days, but that’s my fault cause I’d squeeze too much out.
Purchase? Most likely yes! Once I’m done all my other face creams.

Hair

Fekkai – Brilliant Glossing Shampoo & Conditioner (olive oil)
I got these samples from Shoppers. They worked well, but just not as well as my regular products. They really smelled like olive oil too, which I don’t mind for kitchen products, but not really in my shampoo.
Purchase? No.

John Frieda – Luxurious Volume Shampoo & Conditioner
These came from Shoppers as well. It worked okay, but my hair was more in tangles than with my regular shampoo. And it smelled a bit strong for me.
Purchase? No.

The Body Shop – Banana Shampoo & Conditioner
I already did a full review of these products so here’s a summary: they smell great but don’t work that great.
Repurchase? No.

Phew! Did you make it through all of that?!? 🙂

I have more negatives than positives this month, but that’s the great thing about samples. At least I didn’t fork out the money for all of those in full size.

Have you tried any of these products?
