NailPolishCanada 2013 Holiday Nail Art Challenge Week 1 – Snow

Hi everyone!

I’ve decided to take part in NailPolishCanada’s 2nd Annual Holiday Nail Art Challenge! There’s a little story that brought me to this so I’ll try to keep it short. Last weekend I decided that from now until Christmas I would do at least one nail art per week. Then I saw this nail art by @nailistayco on Instagram and I just loved it so much that I had to recreate it. We had our first snow storm this past Wednesday so that was the plan for the evening, and it seemed very fitting given the weather. And after that plan was set in motion I discovered NPC’s Holiday Challenge and this week’s theme is snow so I figured it was just meant to be! 🙂

And here we are with my snowflakes nail art!

Here are the products I used and the steps I did for this nail art:

  • OPI “Nail Envy” as base coat (not shown)
  • Essence “Sunset Paradise” x2 coats
  • Nubar “White Polka Dot” x1 coat
  • Loose diamond-shaped glitters from Essence
  • Nubar “White Polka Dot” x1 coat – again
  • Butter London “Hardwear P.D. Quick Top Coat” x2 coats (not shown)

The loose glitters are from a nail art decoration kit from Essence from their Vintage District LE that they released this past… February I think.

I applied the glitters one by one with a toothpick over Nubar “White Polka Dot”. I would apply Nubar WPD on one nail and then the glitters right away while it was still wet, and go from finger to finger. To get the glitters to stick to the toothpick I would just lick the end of the toothpick to get it wet, then pick up the glitters.

My thumb’s snowflakes are a bit crooked, but that’s ok. 🙂

The reason why I applied a second layer of Nubar “White Polka Dot” after the glitters is because, if you look closely you’ll see that some of the tiny glitters are blue-ish instead of white. That first layer that I added directly over the blue, it’s like the blue bled onto the glitters and they weren’t white anymore. I think a layer of topcoat in between would have prevented that. Oh well, lessons learned.

Regardless, I’m extremely happy with how they turned out!

If you want to participate in this Holiday Nail Art Challenge there is still time! Even if you miss the first week you can join in for the second and/or third week. Here is the link again in case you want to register, and also to go check out the other participants. And, if you want to, vote for me! 🙂

Are you going to participate? Have you started some winter-themed nail art yet?
