Today I’ll be sharing the experience of our first ultrasound.
I know some people have one at around week 8, but our first one was at week 12 (2 weeks ago).
Since we don’t know the sex of the baby yet, instead of writing he/she all the time I’ll just use “they” to keep it simple.
When the nurse put the gel on my stomach, then the device, and then you see your baby on the screen for the first time, I can’t even describe the rush of emotions that went through me.
First off I thought “it’s real, there really is a baby in there!” Cause in the first trimester you don’t show yet and you don’t feel them move so even though you know you are pregnant it still feels surreal and unreal.
The second thought was “wow, they look human already, and they’re big!” Even though they’re just the size of a plum, it’s crazy to think that they went from the size of a sesame seed to a plum in just 7 weeks! And it’s crazy to see and recognize body parts. We didn’t know what to expect, but we didn’t expect what we saw and we were amazed.
And then you’re just overjoyed with “omg that’s our baby!”
Our baby kept moving and it was really funny to see. Whenever we’d get a good side profile, woops, there they went turning their back on us.
On some of the angles you could see the fingers, like 5 little dots on the screen. It was so cool!
At one point my husband made a comment that I was so quiet. I made an excuse that when I laughed and talked it made my belly move, but I was actually trying to control my emotions. I knew if I just said so that I would have lost it. I can’t describe the joy that rushes through you when you look at that screen.
I also asked my husband what his thoughts were:
- super excited;
- couldn’t believe how much they moved;
- was expecting to see an unrecognizable blurry blob and couldn’t believe how clear it was (how good the technology was);
- not much moves him (emotionally), but this really got him super excited.
So there you have it from a man’s point of view! 🙂
Meet our baby! 😀
I can’t wait for the next ultrasound – probably in January – and we should find out the sex at that time too!
