Monthly Empties: May 2014

Hello hello!

How are you all doing today? It’s been a gorgeous weekend here – such a great way to start my vacation! And… it’s June already?!? Seriously, where does the time go???

With that said, it’s time for another round of monthly empties. These are the products that I finished during the month of May. Let’s take a closer look…

I changed my rating system for my mini reviews. I used to go by “Repurchase? Yes, Maybe, No”, but that didn’t really reflect if I liked a product or not – even though I did include that in my reviews. So here’s my new system:

Green light - loved it = Loved it!
Orange light - it's okay = It’s okay.
Red light - dislike = Dislike!
No rating = No rating.
(Links are to my past reviews.)

I just find this easier to tell if I liked a product or not. And in my mini reviews I will indicate if I will repurchase or not (for whatever reason that may be).

Bath and Body Works Shower Gels Green light - loved it
REPEAT ITEMS! You’ve seen these before (in different scents) and you’ll see them again (always in different scents). I like to buy them when they’re buy-3-get-3-free. Although I am starting to branch out into other brands for body washes (cause I like to try new things), but I think these will always find their way into my stash.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Stretch Mark Massage Cream Green light - loved it
REPEAT ITEM! I love the smell of this cream – COCOA BUTTER! And it hydrates super well! I’m not repurchasing it right now because I’m working on finishing the Tummy Butter, but if I finish that one and I still need stretch mark products I’ll definitely repurchase this cream.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Stretch Mark Massage Lotion Green light - loved it
Another product that I want to eat because of the scent, and it offers great moisturisation too. I already repurchased this product. And in case you’re wondering, yes I cut it in half to get all the lotion out of there. 🙂

Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Night Cream with Clary Sage Green light - loved it
I received this sample in my Spring Sample Source and I love it! This sample surprisingly lasted me 2 weeks. I wasn’t a fan of the scent at first, but it quickly won me over. I don’t know how to describe it though… I wonder if the Clary Sage has anything to do with it – it’s kind of a bit floral/herbal. If I already didn’t have a full size product (of another brand) waiting to be used I would definitely go buy this one full size.

Shiseido Facial Cottons Green light - loved it
REPEAT ITEM! You’ve seen these many times before and you’re not done seeing them in my monthly empties. They’re the softest facial cottons I’ve ever tried and I always repurchase.

John Frieda Dream Curls Shampoo & Conditioner Orange light - it's okay
I received these in my Spring Sample Source. They worked ok, but they didn’t wow me. I don’t know if with prolonged use they would do anything for my curls, but a one-time foil packet doesn’t show much. I won’t be purchasing these in full size.

Ion Conditioning Curl Whip Orange light - it's okay
This product worked well, but I didn’t like the smell. I will not be repurchasing this.

Redken Curvaceous Cream Shampoo Orange light - it's okay
I usually buy the Redken All Soft shampoo, but I decided to give this one a try to see how it would work. It has a different texture because it’s a cream and I found I needed more to get a good lather. It worked fine and I didn’t see any difference with my hair. But it didn’t smell as good as the All Soft. I will not be repurchasing this one again.

Clinique City Block Sheer SPF 25 Orange light - it's okay
I’ve had this for a long time, but it was put aside when I started using a BB Cream (with SPF). However, this spring I’ve been using a face cream sample that doesn’t have SPF and a foundation sample without SPF either so I’ve been getting my SPF dose with this product. It was also helping add a bit extra moisture to my dehydrated face. It says “oil-free” on the packaging, but I still found it had a touch of oiliness to it. It also says “sheer” but it has a hint of colour, a bit like a tinted moisturiser. I won’t be repurchasing this item though, I don’t find it’s a must.

Hard Candy Ginormous Lash Mascara No rating
This one has no rating because I never got to try it. I bought a Hard Candy sample kit last fall (just before Halloween) and this was in it. I was really hoping to try it because Sarah from Workaday Ramblings really likes this mascara. I did kind of forget that I had it, and when I remembered this past month I could barely open it up because it was all dried up. Bummer.

Holika Holika Magic Pole Waterproof Mascara Green light - loved it
This is my Holy Grail mascara and I procrastinated so much in buying a new one that I used this one until it was so dry that it barely worked. But it’s since been ordered and has arrived, YAY!

That gives me 13 empties this month, which is not bad. Ok, so technically it’s only 12 empties since one of the products I never got to use. Anywho, a good little stash. 🙂
