It’s time for another Canadian Beauty Bloggers guest post and this month I’m really happy to introduce you Julie from Swatch and Review. Julie is the mastermind behind the CBB web site and she’s one smart cookie – not just in web stuff!
This month’s theme is red and white so let’s take a look at what Julie prepared for us.
Hi everybody! I’m Julie from Swatch and Review and I’m so excited to be posting on Chantal’s Corner today! This month the Canadian Beauty Bloggers are feeling a bit patriotic (O Canada!) and we’re sharing our red & white themed looks.
Now the first idea I had was to do a nail art look but a) I am the worst at nail art, which would be especially apparent on Chantal’s blog since her nails are amazing and… b) I wanted to try something outside my comfort zone: a red & white eye look! I know, it sounds a bit freaky, but stay with me here. There are lots of ways you can rock red and white without it looking too “fashion house” or too crazy.
The look I created is fairly simple and only took 10 minutes to do (mostly to even out the liquid liner).
Step 1: Prime your lids, you don’t want the two shadows mixing together. I use Smashbox 24 Hour Shadow Primer.
Step 2: Apply a white shadow like NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk on the lid and blend with fingertip.
Step 3: Fill in the crease with a cream red shadow, such as CoverGirl Flamed Out Pencil in Red Hot Flame. Blend with fingertip.
Step 4: Blend out the red shadow using a crease blender brush with a lighter red or orange, I used MAC Daydreaming.
Step 5: Line with a black liquid liner, my fave is ArtDeco Liquid Liner.
Step 6: ROCK THAT LOOK!
I do have a few tips for wearing red on the lids as this look can go South very fast:
- Make sure to wear a full coverage foundation as this look will bring out the red tones in your skin.
- Do not wear a dark blush (I opted for a light pink gold).
- Wear a dark liner to emphasize your eyes and complete the look.
- Blend, blend, blend that shadow.
So what do you think? Would you rock a red & white eyeshadow look?
Thank you Julie, I absolutely love the look you came up with! It’s definitely outside my comfort zone, but totally something I would rock for Canada Day – or some other event where the colours were fitting.
If you don’t follow Julie’s blog yet (Swatch and Review) make sure you pay her a visit – you won’t regret it!
