Today I’m showing you the essence dark romance nail polishes that I bought recently (and showed you in a video).
There are actually 4 nail polish in this limited edition, but we only got 3 in Canada.
The brushes are the standard essence brushes – wide and thin, just like I love them.
01 dark night starlight – the sparkling
The true colour of this polish is hard to capture on camera because it’s a blueish purple that turns out more blue in pictures. If you look at the image on the essence site you can see that it’s purple, but with a heavy blue undertone.
This polish is a bit sheer and patchy so I used 3 coats for full opacity, and no top coat. I find the finish to be a bit flat though, I was hoping it would be more shiny. It looks shiny in the pictures, but I was hoping it would be more of a glossy finish. A top coat would easily take care of that.
02 red romance – the matt
This is a beautiful vampy red that is perfect for the season. I don’t consider the finish to be matt though, but more waxy or leathery. It’s not my favourite type of finish.
The formula is a bit patchy so I used 3 coats for full opacity, and no top coat.
I had to check it out with a shiny top coat though and WOW is it ever gorgeous!
04 gothic gold – the sand
This is the one I was most excited about. I’m not a big fan of gold, but this is a cool-toned gold and I really like it. I’ve been wanting a textured polish of this colour as well so I was quite happy to get it.
I used 2 coats for this one, and of course NO top coat. It still seemed a bit patchy when I looked at my nails up close, but since it’s such a light colour it really doesn’t show.
I really like how essence did different finishes with the polishes in this collection. Although I’m not a fan of waxy finishes so I’ll always use a shiny top coat on 02 red romance – unless I really want a matt finish then I’ll use a matt top coat.
I love all 3 polishes we got in this one, but I have to say that 02 red romance with a top coat is gorgeous so that’s my favourite one.
Did you pick up any polishes from this collection? Which one is your favourite?
