Hi everyone! I’m Jodi and I blog over on Up the Rollercoaster about makeup, skincare and my adorable cat, Korra. I’m really excited to be writing for Chantal’s Corner as part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers guest post swap! Our theme this month is pink, white and red and I’ve created a makeup look that isn’t perfectly matched with the theme but was definitely inspired by it. I had a lot of fun creating this makeup look and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Because I knew this post was going to be going up after Valentine’s Day I didn’t want to do a look that was too centered around soft, girly makeup or red lips. I was drawn to my Makeup Geek eyeshadow Burlesque and went from there.
Being focused around a burgundy eyeshadow rather than something bright red makes the look more subtle and wearable, but the great thing about Burlesque is that if you wanted to really amp up the colour you could – this shade is absolutely gorgeous when piled on.
I started my look off as I usually do – with a good eye primer. I use one by NARS but there are so many out there – Too Faced, Urban Decay and NYX all do great ones at different price points as well. I allowed that to set for a few minutes before packing on Urban Decay‘s Skimp from the Urban Obsessions palette, which I got as a 500 point perk from Sephora a few months ago. This has quickly become one of my favourite palettes to grab for simple looks (Skimp and Bust make a great two-eyeshadow look) but I digress. I packed this on all over my lid before taking Burlesque into the crease and slowly building up the colour and blending it out to get rid of harsh lines. I added a bit of Bust along the outer “v” of my eyelid and blended that upwards into Burlesque to give a bit more dimension to my eyes before reapplying Skimp on the very center of my eyelid, my brow bone and inner corner. I realize now that I could have blended Burlesque and Skimp together a bit more towards my brow bone for photos, but it looked fine in real life.
I actually applied a coat of Maybelline‘s Lash Sensational mascara before I decided to pull Burlesque onto my lower lash line because I was indecisive but decided last minute it needed a little something something down there. I applied it very lightly with a pencil brush along the outer corner of my eye and then blended it from there to get the soft smokey look which I’m really happy with! To finish off the eyes I tightlined my eyelid with Pixi’s Silky Eye Pen in Brown. I am seriously in love with this eyeliner – it is creamy and sets so quickly. Definitely a new favourite!
