Welcome to day 1 of the October Nail Art Challenge! The theme today is black so I did a black and grey gradient that I call “Darkness is Coming”. 🙂
For this nail art I used:
- OPI Natural Nail Base Coat
- essie “power clutch”
- Sinful Colors “Black on Black”
- CND Vinylux Weekly Top Coat
- essence gel top coat
- makeup sponge for the gradient
I started with two coats of essie “power clutch” as my base colour. I then created the gradient with essie “power clutch” and Sinful Colors “Black on Black”, putting the black at my cuticles and the grey at the tips. Once done I added a coat of CND Vinylux Weekly Top Coat, but the finish was still a bit rough, and since that bottle is getting empty I used essence gel top coat as my second layer of top coat.
Unfortunately I got some bubbles between the two layers of top coat. I’ve never had this problem when using just one brand and doing 2-3 layers (and waiting the same amount of time between coats), but I guess the two don’t mix well. Oh well, we’ll just say it was part of the design. 😉
Bubbles aside, I’m really happy with how they turned out! It was a bit tough to do the gradient because since the colours are really close to each other, it was hard to tell how the sponging of the colours was coming along. Especially when the light reflected on it. But it the end it turned out great, if I do say so myself. 🙂
Come back tomorrow to see what I did for day 2 and don’t forget to check out what the other participants came up with by visinting the links below!
