Scent Memories with Demeter: Suntan Lotion, Salt Air and Piña Colada

Hi everyone!

* Products provided for review. *

Scents can be powerful and bring back good and bad memories from our past, sometimes even forgotten memories that get awaken by smelling something that had not entered our nostrils in a long long time.

When I was asked to create a scent memory from Demeter‘s huge list of fragrances I was immediately drawn to Salt Air and Suntan Lotion. Just thinking about them brings back memories from my childhood and I could not wait to try Demeter‘s creations to see if they would evoke those memories as well. Demeter added in Piña Colada to create a trio of scents that could be worn alone or layered together. Let’s take a closer look…

Salt Air

Imagine a perfect sea breeze on the perfect beach at your favorite tropical island. Now you have the perfect description of Demeter’s Salt Air.

My first pick was Salt Air because I grew up on the shore in New Brunswick and smelled the salty sea air every single day. There’s just something refreshing about that scent and I miss it so much now that I live in the middle of the country where there is not a touch of salt water anywhere close.

Demeter‘s Salt Air smells fresh and salty; like being outdoors on a beach. I can’t say that it’s like they bottled the scent from back home (not every shore smells exactly the same), but it’s very close to what I grew up with. I love it!

This was the view from the edge of my parents’ property; there was a marsh followed by cottages on the beach, and the Baie-des-Chaleurs right on the other side. My bedroom was in the back of the house and I often fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach (in the summer when I had my window open).

Suntan Lotion

Sensual, sparkling and cheerful with the rich scent of Orange Blossom.

Although we lived close to the beach we had a pool at the house and most summer days were spent lathered in suntan lotion, either lounging by the pool or being in it.

Demeter‘s Suntan Lotion doesn’t quite smell like the suntan lotion smell I’m used to, but when I smell it I can recognise something about it that does feel familiar to suntan lotion – if that makes any sense! 🙂 I do enjoy the smell.

My father sold the house last year… I sure will miss hanging out back there.

Piña Colada

To make a great Piña Colada, the trick is to use both light and dark rum, a dash of bitters and a little double cream. Demeter’s Pina Colada is a luscious mixture of Cream of Coconut, Fresh Pineapple and Light Rum, blended to a perfect sweetness and richness.

Demeter added in Piña Colada and I absolutely LOOOVE Piña Coladas! I love love love coconut, and there’s something about mixing it with pineapple juice that maxes it so exotic and yummy. Mmm mmm mmm!

How does it smell? Well… CAN I DRINK IT??? 😀 It smells that good! It’s the perfect mixture of coconut and pineapple with a hint of rum. I just want to roll in it all day long… you know what I’ll be wearing on the daily next summer!!! (I’m in to darker and sweeter scents now that the cold weather has arrived.)

Blending the Scents

When I blend all three scents together I find that Suntan Lotion is the only scent that really comes though, with a hint of saltiness from Salt Air. Piña Colada completely gets lots behind the other two.

Suntan Lotion is the scent that lasts the longest (and strongest), followed by Salt Air, and lastly Piña Colada fades very very quickly, unfortunately.

All three scents are great! I just wish that Piña Colada lasted longer.

These scents, plus many MANY others, are available in various sizes and formats on Demeter’s Web site.
