Merry Christmas everyone!
For those of you who celebrate Christmas, what family traditions do you have? For us, my parents hosted Christmas dinner for as long as I can remember. When we were young and all the cousins were there too we had to add an extra table, plus we had a kiddy table for us little ones (my brother and I are the youngest cousins in the family). The year my mother passed away we still hosted Christmas dinner, but for obvious reasons things were not the same. We were missing two at the table that year because one of my uncles, one of my mother’s brothers, passed away two weeks after my mom. It was sad, but we kept our spirits up and remembered the good times.
My brother and I both live in the same city, which is a 12h drive from where we grew up, so after that year my father started visiting us for Christmas. He’s since moved back to where he grew up and where my grandmother lives, which is an hour and a half away, so now we go see them for Christmas lunch and visit our grandmother, who will be 98 in a few days!
1. Favourite Christmas Movie?
I don’t really have a favourite Christmas movie, but growing up I seem to remember Astérix et Obélix movies playing during the holidays and always loved watching that.
2. Are you on the Naughty list or the Nice list?
I’m on the nice list, always have been. I’m such a stickler for following rules and such. I wish I was a bit more naughty at times, but this is who I am and I like me so it’s all good. 🙂
3. Have you ever had a White Christmas?
I’ve ALWAYS had a white Christmas! I think I’ve had one, or maybe two, green Christmases so far. This year adds another one though. 🙁 We’ve had the warmest winter ever recorded this year, it’s crazy. I WANT MY SNOW!!!
4. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?
I’m a bit between the two. We don’t get really good deals for Black Friday around here (Canada – not as big as in the States), although they’ve been getting better. I do as much shopping online as possible cause I hate crowds at the mall.
5. If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?
I honestly don’t know – I can’t think of anything right now.
6. Name all of Santa’s reindeer.
RUDOLPH! Are there others? 😉 Let’s see… Prancer? Dasher? Are they reindeers? That’s all I have.
7. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Fake. I prefer to leave the real trees in the forests.
8. Peeking at gifts or be surprised?
Be surprised! Stickler for rules, remember? Honestly though I love the element of surprise and do not want to know beforehand.
9. Does your family have a special holiday recipe you like to help make?
My mother always made scotch cookies! (sugar cookies) She would make huge batches and put them in the freezer. My brother and I would go eat them straight from the freezer, they were so good! I remember loving to help with icing them. She would make icing from icing sugar and water, and put half a maraschino cherry on top. Sugar overload but SO GOOD!
10. Have you ever gone Christmas carolling?
11. What tops your tree?
Since we got our tree 4-5 years ago this is the first year it actually has something. I made a bow after seeing so many friends share a video on Facebook on how to make big bows. Since the only decorations this year are the ones that came with the tree (they’re tied into the branches), I figured a nice red bow would add a nice touch. My daugher is a year and a half so I didn’t want to risk having her break decorations and potentially cut herself with broken shards.
12. Do you make New Years Resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I don’t make any. If I want to change something about myself, my diet, my lifestyle I do it when I make the decision.
13. You have been granted one Christmas wish… what will it be?
To see my mother one more time and have her meet her granddaughter.
Now you know a little bit more about me. 🙂
Share some stories with me, I would love to know some of your Christmas traditions and must-haves.
– Chantal 🙂
