The Canadian Beauty Bloggers‘ featured brand this month is Sephora Collection and it reminded me that I have one nail polish from Formula X (for Sephora) that I’ve never tried. I figured this was the perfect time to take it out. This one is called A+, let’s take a look…
This is a mini bottle (5mL) that I got with my VIB points when I made a purchase… 2 years ago maybe?
The brush is round and small, but this is a mini bottle. I’ve never tried any other polishes from them so I don’t know how the brush is on their regular bottles.
A+ is described as raspberry – short and sweet.
I found the formula a bit… gloopy. It just seems a bit thicker than most polishes. I know I’ve had it for 2 years or so, but this is the very first time that I open the bottle. It even had a plastic wrapper around it and I just removed it today. Did it still dry up a bit? It’s possible – as I mentioned above I’ve never tried their polishes before so I don’t know what their formula is usually like.
I found the formula patchy too, especially with thin coats. I’m right-handed so when I apply polish on my right hand – with my left hand – I do really thin coats so I don’t flood my cuticles (cause I shake). When I do my left hand I go with slightly thicker coats and for that reason it often looks better after two coats. I found with this polish that my right hand still looked patchy after two coats so I added a third one on both hands, even though my left hand was ok with two coats.
The polish has a very shiny finish, but it’s not quite self-leveling so it’s not a smooth-looking finish. Because of that I added a topcoat – especially since I was wearing these nails out to an event.
So in these pictures I have three coats plus topcoat.
The formula is definitely not the worse I’ve tried, but I’m not a fan of creme polishes that require three coats for full opacity. I like the colour though.
The regular size bottles retail for $13 CAD on Sephora.
Have you tried polishes from Formula X? What did you think about them?
