No shopping trip to Montréal is complete without going to Simons – that store is a MUST. I don’t go to Montréal nearly as often as I would like to, but now I can get all of my Simons shopping done here in Ottawa because there is one opening in the CF Rideau Centre, WHOOHOO!!!
Last night I had the opportunity to attend a preview/tour of the new location and today I’m going to tell you all about it. The CEO of Simons, Mr Peter Simons himself, was giving us the tour and gave us some background info on their house brands and initiatives for the future and such. I tried to take as many notes as I can so I’ll share what I have with you. I also have a bunch of pictures of the store to show you so this post will be a bit picture heavy.
Simons is a 176 year old family-owned business that started in Quebec City, Quebec. They are now at their 6th generation working in the family business.
The Ottawa location is one of their biggest stores at 100,000 sq. ft. spread over two floors. The store in Montréal is a little bit smaller at 90,000 sq. ft. Their biggest store is in Edmonton, but I missed the size of that one.
Simons has a few house brands: twik for the young ladies (16-25), icône for the working ladies (30-40), and Contemporaine also for working ladies, but with a target age of 45-50. They also have a lingerie line called miiyu. For men they have DJAB for the young lads, and Le 31 for the working fellas. They also have a sports line called i.fiv5. And let’s not forget their home section, Simons Maison.
The top floor has imported designer collections as well as their icône, Contemporaine, Maison, Le 31, and i.fiv5 (for men) private labels.
The name Le 31 was inspired by the French expression “se mettre sur son 31” which means putting on your best clothes.
Every Simons store has a work of art made by a Canadian artist. At this location there is this piece by Shayne Dark called Torrential Red in the escalator section.
The first floor is where you will find the brands DJAB, twik, i.fiv5 for women, miiyu, and the accessories section.
The change-rooms in the DJAB section look like porta-potties! Thank you to my friend Vanessa for the picture.
Wouldn’t those feathered earrings look awesome with my pixie cut?!? 😉
Here I am with Peter Simons. That man is TALL! I’m 5’7″ for reference. 🙂
With my friend Vanessa… don’t we all need those lipstick tops behind us?!? 🙂
Their expansion plans for 2017 include a second location in Edmonton (Londonderry Mall I believe) and Calgary. And I believe there is Vancouver and Toronto later on as well (2018+).
In case you’re wondering if we got to shop, we did not. This was just a preview tour, nothing else.
This new location of Simons opens to the public tomorrow, August 11th, at 11am. Will you be checking it out?
– Chantal 🙂
