Milani Nail Polish in Red Sparkle – Swatches and Review

Hi everyone!

What are you doing this weekend? We’re having lunch with my husband’s family today and lunch with my family tomorrow, during which we’ll be celebrating my grandmother’s 100th birthday. That’s right, ONE HUNDRED!!!

This is not the post I had scheduled for today, but since I just did my nails last night with this nail polish, it is way more festive than the other post I had prepared (which you’ll see on Monday). This is Red Sparkle by Milani.

This bottle has the typical round brush, but I’m not showing it to you cause it was too gunked up with nail polish to really see it.

I decided to wear this nail polish for the Christmas weekend since it just felt appropriate, a beautiful red glitter bomb! And since this is advertised as a one coat glitter polish I figured it would be easy peasy (glitter polishes tend to require three coats for full opacity due to the jelly formula). Boy was I ever wrong!!!

The formula of this one was so thick I had to add nail polish thinner to it, about 4 times the quantity it says to add on the bottle! Even then, after doing a few fingers the formula thickened up again and it was just a blobby mess. Now, I’ve had this bottle for quite a few years and I’ve only used it for nail art before so it’s quite possible that it dried it out a little, causing this gunky mess. But still, even the nail polish thinner didn’t help.

Most of my nails were uneven, which, thankfully, you can’t see unless you really stare at them from up close. I did add two rather thick layers of topcoat to give an even finish, which worked. But some nails just look odd cause it’s just piled on so thick (mostly on my right hand).

Of course I had to do a macro shot. I just need to find a better light angle for doing this, but you still get a good look at the glitters. It’s just so jam packed with micro red glitters! And a few black ones.

After all that work I’m still happy with how they turned out. It’s just too bad that glitters don’t photograph well because these pictures really don’t show how beautiful this nail polish looks.

Needless to say, I will not use this nail polish for a full manicure again, but it’s definitely great for nail art since it’s so dense with glitter that it covers fully in one coat.

What are you doing on your nails for Christmas?

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I wish you a wonderful weekend filled with joy and happiness.
