Scented Oolong Teas from Tea Ave

I first heard about Tea Ave when they opened back in 2015. I had received some samples to try but never got around to reviewing them because I was on maternity leave and was not organized at all (although I did share them in my last Tea Empties post). However, I loved the samples so much that I ordered more tea! So now I can finally give them the proper review that they deserve because, spoiler alert, they’re delicious!

Scented Oolong Tea Ave

Tea Ave is a Canadian company (yay Canada!) from British Columbia. It’s the brainchild of a brother/sister team who love oolong tea. Tea Ave offers both straight oolongs and scented oolongs, all 100% fresh and natural, with no sprays or artificial flavourings. Their teas are hand-selected from the tea farms of Taiwan.

Their scented teas are prepared using the ancient method, in which the tea absorbs the flower fragrance during the baking progress, producing a scented tea that’s aromatic and flavorful without using any additives or chemicals.

Tea Ave Magnolia Oolong Jasmine Oolong

The first tea I put in my cart was Jasmine Oolong. Jasmine-scented teas are my favourites, there’s just something about the floral taste and aroma that calms and soothes me.

They describe their Jasmine Oolong as a flower tea with an inviting floral scent and a clean, strong taste, the flavor of jasmine blossoms overlaying earthy oolong undertones. A delicious tea that will transport you to the high mountains of Taiwan. Get ready to breathe more deeply than you have in a while.

De-li-cious!

Tea Ave Jasmine Oolong

I’m unfamiliar with other scented teas and the Magnolia Oolong sounded like it would taste good (they all do actually, but I had to make a choice). It’s described as a sumptuous, exotic flower tea, perfect for imagining yourself breathing in the fresh air of the Alishan Mountains—even if you rarely travel further than your local farmers’ market. Light and pure-tasting, Magnolia is a highly refined tea with an appealing sweet flavor and warm floral notes.

It tastes similar to the Jasmine Oolong, yet still different. I find there’s a warmer feel to the taste if that makes any sense. I need to expand my tea tasting dictionary. 😉 In short, another delicious tea!

The people from Tea Ave are very generous and included extra gifts in my order! They added a tin box and an infuser, how awesome is that?!?

They even included a reusable bag!

I also received three samples: Ginger Lily Oolong, Whenshan Baochong Oolong, and Oriental Beauty. I’ve only tried the Ginger Lily Oolong so far and that one is going in my next order!

What’s nice about oolong teas is that you can steep the leaves more than once (up to four times if using a teapot). And that’s what I’ve been doing! I’ll have multiple cups in a day. The more you brew oolong, the more its flavour comes out, so every cup tastes slightly different, but in a good way!

I’m rather new to the oolong world; I usually gravitate towards green tea out of habit and familiarity. But I have to say that I’m now an oolong convert! I’ll definitely be getting more teas from Tea Ave, I want to try them all!

What kind of teas do you like to drink?
