Guest Post: Kalyn from

Hi all!

UPDATE: Unfortunately the blog Kalyn Lord no longer exists so the links and pictures on this page have been removed.

Another month is under way so it’s time for a new guest blogger from the Canadian Beauty Bloggers! This month’s theme is transitioning to warm weather and I have the wonderful Kalyn from sharing some of her favourite summer brights.

Kalyn is the mastermind behind the Canadian Beauty Bloggers and she’s one smart cookie! Her product reviews are very detailed and I wish I had her makeup collection. We also live in the same city, although we haven’t met… yet! 😉

Let’s take a look at these beautiful colours that she chose…

With the slow melting of snow and the ever-forward creep of greenery, it’s not surprising that my (and many others’) mind starts turning to summer. Patios begin to open, garden centers fill will potted annuals, I get to start nagging my husband about dusting off the lawn mower…it’s spring! And that means one thing is certain; summer is just around the corner.

While I am always a fan of dark, vampy makeup, I always like to toss a few eye-searing brights into my look when the thermometer reaches the double-digits. While only the bravest of the brave would rock a full-on neon face, there are lots of products available to inject a small dose of super-bright colour into an otherwise neutral makeup look. Here are a few of my favourites:

Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette
Of COURSE this is included; the Electric Palette was released to a veritable hum of excitement in the beauty world…and rightly so. It is a vivid, intense collection of ten pressed pigments (the FDA has not approved a few for use around the eye, however…all other countries have given them the green light!)…and it. is. amazing. My favourite shades are Slowburn, Savage, and Thrash — all three are slightly-satin-but-mostly-matte, beautifully pigmented products, and they look stunning when swiped along your lashline as a peek-a-boo hint of colour.

Revlon Photoready Cream Blush in Coral Reef (300) and Flushed (200)
These gorgeous little pots are easy to source (most drugstores and box stores), well-priced (under ten bucks a pop), look AMAZING (simple, minimal branding) and…best of all, they apply like a dream. The formula is both vibrant and extremely wearable, blending out with minimal work and providing you with as much colour as you want…nothing more. You can use these beautiful blushes to give yourself a surprisingly natural-looking boost of brightness, no matter your skin tone.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Unapologetic, Shameless, and Audacious
I’m just now beginning to appreciate how amazing these are, in the great, grand scheme of the beauty world. Matte but creamy, easy to apply, profoundly pigmented, and fairly budget-priced. Revlon is definitely my favourite drugstore lip brand and there is no exception with these crayons. Featured above, I have Shameless (bright, beautiful grape), Unapologetic (vivid, warm pink) and Audacious (creamy, luscious orange)…all three are an easy way to toss a bit of brightness on your face with very little effort.

This is only a snapshot of my favourite brights — every summer, brands from all price points release beautiful, vibrant shades that are often limited edition, so there’s definitely an opportunity to augment your beauty bag with a new product in fuchsia, magenta, coral or lime. The question is…how do you limit yourself to only a few?

I love all the bright colours, thank you Kalyn!

If you’re not following Kalyn already you’re missing out, so head on over to right now!

What colours do you like to wear during warmer months?
