Shark Week Nail Art

Hey everyone!

Last week was Shark Week 2014 on the Discovery Channel (it ended yesterday) and some of my fellow Canadian Beauty Bloggers were talking about doing some Shark Week Nail Art. I have not done any nail art since giving birth and doing Shark Week nails sounded like to much fun that I HAD to join in!

I wasn’t quite sure how to draw my shark so I went to Google Images and really liked this shark by Smashley Sparkles (blog no longer available) so I used it as my inspiration. The only thing is that mine looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old, lol! And I recreated the sea gradient that I did in my Beach Summer Nail Art last year and added some shark fins.

So, here are my Shark Week nails! 🙂

For this nail art I used the following products:

And tools:

  • Makeup sponge for the gradients
  • My Pure Color no. 9 (long) and 10 (short) nail art brushes for the shark, fins and waves
  • A dotting tool for the shark’s eyes

For the gradient nails I started with two coats of Sinful Colors “Snow Me White” and then a coat of Poshé Topcoat. The topcoat is to seal in the base colour so that when I sponge on the gradient it doesn’t remove it (because if it’s not dry it can come off in patches with the sponge). I then proceeded with the gradient and then added the fins and waves.

Once everything was done I sealed it all with a layer of Poshé Topcoat because it’s a fast drying topcoat, and then I added a layer of Butter Londer Matte Finish Topcoat. I like mattifying nail art because I find it brings out the details better.

And this is the result. 🙂

I had lots of fun doing this nail art and I really like how it turned out.

Any suggestions on themes for future nail art?
