Pacifica Island Vanilla Perfume Roll-On Review

Hi everyone!

Going all natural with my products means that I also have to switch out my perfumes. Yup, mainstream perfumes can contain bad stuff in them. So when I placed my order at Well.ca on Black Friday I added in the Pacifica Island Vanilla Perfume Roll-On even though it was not on sale. I love the smell of vanilla so I figured it was a good bet.

When I was looking at the ingredients of this perfume on the Pacifica website they looked perfect: natural, pure grain alcohol and Pacifica’s signature perfume blends with essential and natural oils. That’s it! Pretty good, right?

Well, once I received my order I noticed a little difference with the ingredients written on the box. Do you see it?

Alcohol denat. What is that?!? I did some research… in short, there is a beverage tax on alcohol that is meant for consumption. If alcohol is not intended for drinking (like in perfumes), it is rendered unsuitable for drinking by the addition of ingredients that make it taste bad/bitter (denaturant). That way there is no drinking tax on it.

CosDNA gives alcohol denat. a safety rating of 4 (out of 9) and Think Dirty gives it a 3 (out of 10). The thing with denatured alcohol is that since it evaporates very quickly it can dry out your skin, so it’s a possible skin irritant. It also acts as a penetration enhancer, so if there’s other bad stuff in your perfume it will get absorbed more easily by your skin. Thankfully this perfume seems to have clean ingredients.

Alright, let’s get to the good stuff, the scent! This perfume smells SO GOOD!!!

Inspired by the unique magic of Tahitian vanilla, this sensual blend sets sweet and sultry vanilla absolute, with honey-jasmine notes and a touch of fruitiness, against a deep and beautiful base of tea.

To me this smells like a nice, deep, rich vanilla that sometimes has slightly fruity notes and sometimes slightly spicy, but it is neither a fruity nor spicy scent – if that makes any scents. 😉

My main issue with this perfume is the roller. I feel like I’m rolling and rolling and rolling and nothing comes out. I do get some, but it just seems like I have to roll a crazy long time to get a scent on me. This one does not leave a wet trail like my other roll-on perfumes do.

Other than the rolling issue I absolutely LOVE this perfume! I bought it on Well.ca for $18 CAD.

Mmmm… i love Vanilla scents! Weird that the roller took a while to work though!

    • This one smells so good! But I hate the roller. Now it seems like it’s getting all gunked up from my body lotion, I’ll have to look into cleaning it up.

  • I do love pacifica products, I actually recently purchased the Hawaiian Guava set which comes with the roller perfume. I didn’t have the same problem with the roller though, so maybe it’s just a dud? If you don’t like the idea of denatured alcohol you could make your own perfume with pure vanilla extract, a carrier oil and some vodka in a spray bottle (probably!) I’ve never tried it but I’ve seen lots of pinterest DIY posts on them.

    • It’s funny you mention that because I actually looked up how to make perfume and I’ve seen posts where they soak vanilla beans in vodka for weeks and then mix with a carrier oil (or something like that). I may try it at some point. 🙂
