My nails lately feat. Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics, China Glaze, essence, Sally Girl

Hi everyone!

This nail polish post is a bit different than what I used to do. Since I don’t post as often as before, and I don’t do my nails as often either, I figured I would post a few nail polishes together instead of dedicating one post to each. So these are what I’ve been wearing since 2017 started.

I bought this nail polish two or three years ago and finally took it out this January. The only good thing it has going for it is the colour because the formula was thin, streaky and patchy. This is four coats people, FOUR COATS! The first coat was really thin and I felt like it was drying as I was applying it. The following coats got thicker and thicker because I could still see the streaks. At four coats it had decent coverage, but it definitely needed a topcoat because the finish was very uneven. The topcoat saved the day because I absolutely love the colour and how they finally turned out. But this was way more work than necessary. I guess the good thing that came out of this is that with base coat + 4 layers + top coat, these lasted 6 days before they started chipping.

I’ve had this nail polish for quite a few years and finally decided to use it this February. The first coat was quite streaky and patchy and I thought I would have to apply three coats to achieve full opacity, but two coats were enough. I then finished it off with top coat and voilà! I was in the mood for a brighter colour (like the last polish in this post), but I still really really liked this one. It’s a beautiful colour and definitely a keeper.

I was in the mood for a dark and vampy polish again so I grabbed for this essence polish. This is a jelly formula so I needed three coats for full opacity. I did add a top coat (because I always do), but this nail polish was this beautiful and shiny on its own. You would not be able to tell the difference if I showed you before and after pictures (with top coat).

Sally Girl “Way2Disco”

I have so many nail polishes that I have not tried yet that I always use a new one when I do my nails so that I can go through them. I was really in the mood for this type of colour, but I don’t have any untried in this shade range. However, I do have glitter toppers in my untried that I can use over a colour I’ve used before, so that’s what I decided to do! I first applied three coats of Nature Republic: no 28 then applied a generous coat of Way2Disco. Since this is a glitter polish I finished it off with two layers of top coat.

You can’t really see the glitter from the pictures taken in my light box so here is a picture taken in the sun. Way2Disco has blue-teal iridescent glitters in a clear base.

I also did my nails one more time and I posted that one by itself because it was a non-toxic nail polish: Acquarella Non-Toxic Nail Polish in Frolic.

Have you tried any of these? What colours have you worn lately?

  • I love the Nature Republic color, it’s so pretty! I have been doing my nails a lot more lately and they are currently the red/maroon color of the first ones you posted!

    • That shade from Nature Republic is definitely one of my favourite ones, along with dark vampy colours like that first one! 🙂

  • i LOVEEEEE the teal and glitter! so cute and so springy!

I love the Cheap Whore color!! I use nail polish here and there but I have trouble keeping it on since my hands are always in dish water or washing my hands.

    • I love it too, I just wish it didn’t take four coats for full opacity. Thankfully I have very similar colours that require less.
Yeah having your hands in water a lot makes them chip a lot faster.

How pretty, painted nails are so polished and nice, I love that bright blue!
