The Canadian Beauty Bloggers‘ featured brand this month is essence and the theme is matte must-haves, so I figured what better time than now to try this matte nail polish from essence called candy crush.
It has the regular essence brush that I LOVE! Their nail polish brushes are definitely my favourites.
candy crush is a beautiful coral colour that is perfect for the summer!
As for a matte finish, well you can see from my pictures that it is not matte. It’s not glossy, but I’d say it’s kind of a shiny waxy finish.
I found the formula to be a bit patchy and needed three coats for full opacity. The first coat was the mattest, with each following coat being less and less matte. It does have a beautiful flawless finish though, except for that little nick I did at the base of my ring finger as I was cleaning up my cuticles… *grumble grumble*
I really like the colour, but do I consider this a matte must-have? No. Also not a fan that I needed three coats for full opacity. I know Zoë from Writing Whimsy only needed two coats for this one and said it was almost a one coater for her! (go see her review) So maybe mine was just sitting there for too long…?
Did you grab this polish when it was out? What do you think about it?

I haven’t tried the matte nail polishes from Essence by I love their new(ish) gel formula though!
I have their gel formula, but I have not tried them yet. I should do that soon!
I think they want you to buy the satin matte top coat to go with them, the most recent matte I bought is definitely less matte than previously
I saw their matte top coat, but I already have two (other brands) and I rarely use them so I passed on essence’s one for now. What’s the point of having a matte polish if you need to add a matte topcoat over it?!?
For those who need a top coat or chip polish easily, I guess it is a good idea to have a semi matte top coat to match it? I had that issue when the Zoya Satins came out but the top coat was not, matte top coats made them look dull and chalky but reg took away from the satin finish (which is the only reason I bought Essence’s top coat as it isn’t 100% matte like most)

I would not have known that this was applying patchily since the final result looks so pretty!
I agree, I really like the end result! But that 3rd coat was a must though, otherwise it did not look that good.
