Dr. Bronner’s Almond Pure-Castile Liquid Soap Review

My search for a natural body wash brought me to many brands and products, but the one that caught my attention the most was Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap. They have many scents of this soap and almond is the one that appealed the most to me. Let’s see how it’s been working out…

Those are straight-forward ingredients, wouldn’t you agree?!?

Natural Almond Fragrance

Warm, comforting and slightly sweet & like marzipan or amaretto!

The scent of this soap comes from the Natural Almond Fragrance they put in and it smells absolutely wonderful! If you love that sweet almond scent then you’ll love this soap.

18-in-1: 1 product for 18 uses!

I didn’t realize you could do so many things with this soap! They list a few on the bottle and you can visit their website for the rest of the uses.

Of course I had to put a few of those to the test, here are my thoughts…

Face: I have only tried this in the morning so I don’t know how it would do with removing makeup. I’ve used this in the shower and although it leaves my face a bit tight, it’s not as tight as it usually feels with foaming cleansers. If you have acne, they have a Tea Tree soap that would be perfect for the face.

Body: This is the main use I bought it for and use it every single time I shower. I absolutely love it! You really don’t need a lot to get a good lather going and it cleans very well. It leaves your body feeling squeaky clean.

Hair: It works really well at removing all the gunk from my hair. Based on the way it makes my hair feel I have a feeling that it would leave long hair quite tangled, but that’s just a guess. They recommend following up with an acidic conditioner such as their Citrus Hair Rinse or apple cider vinegar to balance the pH of the soap.

Teeth: It works! I didn’t find that it tasted all that soapy and it cleaned my teeth really well. Obviously it didn’t leave a minty fresh feeling being almond flavour so I think the Peppermint soap would be best as a toothpaste. But if I’m ever in a pinch then this will definitely do.

Ant Spray: We tend to have an ant problem every summer so if it happens again this year I definitely want to try this (with the Tea Tree soap).

And that’s all I’ve tried so far, except for the last one. I really wanted to try it as a laundry soap for my sheets, but I’m just hesitant cause it’s not made specifically for HE washers.

One issue…

I do have one issue with this soap and that is the lack of a pump. I find I pour too much out when I tilt the bottle over. I was planning on buying a pump, but as I was reading through the comments on the Dilutions Cheat Sheet I read this:

Unfortunately, our liquid Pure Castile soaps do not work well in a traditional pump dispenser. The water content that keeps the soap liquid will eventually evaporate in the pump, leaving solid soap behind which will clog the pump. Before it clogs the pump completely, the partial clog will cause soap to squirt out in unexpected directions and generally make a mess. Instead, we formulated our Organic Pump Soaps (with moisturizing Shikakai extract) that work great in traditional pumps.

Understood.

Final Thoughts

As mentioned earlier I bought this soap to use as my body wash and it’s perfect, I love it! Now I’d like to try some of the other scents too. I think the Citrus would be a nice wake-me-up scent for my morning showers. And I’ll get the Tea Tree soap if the ants decide to show up again this year. I may get that one anyway to help with my body acne for the summer (do you ever grow out of that?!?).

If you’re looking for an all-in-one soap to take on a trip then this is it! I bought this one on Well.ca on sale for $17.59 CAD (reg $21.99).

I have the peppermint one, and it’s great! I agree with you that without a pump it’s too easy to use too much, but their explanation makes sense.
It’s a great product, and you can really use it for everything. It’s particularly good when traveling. I haven’t tried it yet as a toothpaste though. πŸ™‚

    • Ooh if you have the peppermint one then you need to try it to brush your teeth, just once! πŸ™‚
Next time I go on a trip I’ll definitely be bringing this as my go-to soap for everything.

I’ll definitely have to try it. πŸ™‚

  • ive been using this to clean my brushes for a year and love it – I actually use it in diluted form, I have the peppermint one and not sure how I feel about the scent – i was expecting more of a ZING! to it…… like open the sinuses type haha

    • I’ve been meaning to use this for my brushes too instead of baby wash. Next time I will for sure!
Oh that’s interesting that the peppermint is lacking in zingness. πŸ™‚ They have a eucalyptus one too, maybe that one would have it more…?

  • Great review! I was always wondering how would it be possible to use it for teeth (I wasn’t brave enough to try). For me it didn’t worked out well for hair, but it’s possibly because I didn’t use an acidic toner after it…But all the other uses are great and the whole family loves it!

    • Thank you Anna! πŸ™‚
Yeah I wasn’t a fan of washing my hair with it either, even though I have short hair. I think it’s something you need to do for at least 2-3 weeks for your hair to get used to and kind of do a detox process, then apparently your hair will feel wonderful.

    I need to try this!!

  • I tried Dr. Bronner’s for the first time last year and was so so impressed! I took a rose bottle with me to Italy and used it for everything – hair, face, body, even to wash my clothes since I was backpacking. Need to get another bottle and now I’m tempted by the almond one πŸ˜‰

    • I can imagine it’s perfect for travelling since you can do so much with it! The almond scent in this one is wonderful, I love it as a body wash.

thanks for being so detailed with your review, I’ve always bought regular soap and just extra creamy moisturizers but I hear some amazing things castile soap. you totally just solidified my change of heart with this post! my sons and i have terrible dry skin and it’s so bad in the winter.. winter + dry skin + hard water = a bad time. buying some soon! <3

    • If you buy some I hope you like it too! You’ll still need to moisturise afterwards because winters are just so drying, but it is a great soap. Thank you for stopping by!

  • The multiple uses for that are amazing!! I don’t know if I’d ever use it to brush my teeth, but even just as a household cleaner to replace everything else would be great. And for traveling an all-in-one is fabulous! Really too bad about the pump though.

    • You can really do a lot with this soap, it’s impressive! I had to try brushing my teeth with it and it really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. πŸ™‚

  • I loooove Dr. Bronners! They have a great solid soap too. I use the lavender solid bar to wash my makeup brushes πŸ™‚

  • I love this organic products, specially if they are cruelty-free. <3
