I was late to the game with filling in my brows, but it’s something I’ve really (finally) gotten into this past year. I was due for a new brow product and I know that the NYX Micro Brow Pencil is VERY popular so I just HAD to try it. Also, NYX is the Canadian Beauty Bloggers‘ featured brand this month so what better time to try it?!
Curious to see what they put into these pencils? Take a look at the ingredients below.
C12-15 Alkyl Ethylhexanoate – A skin-conditioning agent and emollient.
Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides – A skin-conditioning agent and emollient.
Ozokerite – A hydrocarbon wax derived from mineral sources or from petroleum. It is used in beauty products as a binder, emulsion stabilizer, and viscosity increasing agent.
Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate – A mixture of the fatty acid Isostearic acid and a form of glycerin that functions as a skin-conditioning agent.
C20-40 Alcohols – A mixture of synthetic fatty alcohols with 20 to 40 carbons in the alkyl chain. Functions as an emulsion stabilizer and skin-conditioning agent.
Euphorbia Cerifera Wax – Candelilla Wax
Zinc Stearate – The zinc salt of stearic acid. It has multiple functions in cosmetics, including serving as the basis for soap. Also functions as a colouring agent, slip agent, and texture enhancer.
Microcrystalline Wax – A hydrocarbon wax derived from petroleum. Functions as a binder; bulking agent; emulsion stabilizer; viscosity increasing agent.
Dimethicone – A silicon-based polymer used as a lubricant and conditioning agent.
Sorbitan Tristearate – Functions as a surfactant and emulsifying agent.

Mica – A naturally occurring group of silicate minerals used as colourants.
Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) – An inorganic compound used as a colourant (white) or sunscreen.
Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499) – Colour pigments (red, yellow, black)
Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide (CI 77510) – An inorganic pigments used as a colourant (blue).
The Micro Brow Pencil is an ultra-thin pencil that allows for a very precise application, and it has a spoolie on the other end.
I wasn’t sure what colour to get and the display didn’t have testers for all the colours. They had a tester for the Chocolate shade and it seemed ok, but comparing the shade with Ash Brown (on the box), it seemed that Ash Brown would be a better fit for me, so that’s the colour I bought.
I think that Ash Brown turned out to be a perfect shade for me! Here are my brows before and after filling them in.
I’m far from being an expert when it comes to my brows. I have no clue what shape they should be; I only fill them in so that they look full and somewhat even.
There was a bit of a learning curve to using this pencil because it’s so tiny compared to the one I was using before. The very first time I used it, I did a very horrible job and had to erase/correct MULTIPLE times! It’s actually quite easy to fix mistakes though, you just pass over the area you want to fix a few times with the spoolie and it’ll remove the pencil marks. Then you’re good to go again.
What brow product do you use?
