Happy St. Patrick's Day with Nail Art

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! The day is almost over, but we’re still the 17th. 😉 Did you do anything special today? We went on a shamrock scavenger hunt! Some people in our community put some shamrocks in their windows so that people going on walks could try to find as many as they could. My daughter was very excited about it, from colouring our shamrocks to going out looking for them. It made for a fun activity while we were out on our daily walk, until she forgot about it and only wanted to race with me (she was on her bike).

We’re definitely going through a very strange reality right now. Ontario declared a State of Emergency this morning; most non-essential commercial establishments are closing. How have you been coping? For us, both my husband and I are working from home, and our daughter is out of school until at least April 5th. So we’ve been juggling work and entertaining a five-and-a-half years old. We don’t have a rhythm yet (can we ever with a kid? lol!), but things are going good. We’re doing the best we can because that’s really all we can do.

Last night I took some time for myself and did my nails. It’s not something I’ve been doing often lately due to lack of energy, but it brings me peace and pleasure. It’s like comfort food in hobby form. 🙂

I used gel nail polishes for this manicure. Since I’ll be hands on a lot with my daughter (crafting, playing, etc) I did not want to worry about chipping a nail. Here are all the items I used:

Candy Coat gel base coat
Candy Coat gel polish in 1021 (neon green)
Candy Coat gel polish in G021 (clear base glitter)
Candy Coat Super Shiny No Wipe gel top coat
Color Club clear nail polish
Medium hex glitters in green
Green acrylic paint

(All layers of nail polish were cured for 60 seconds in an LED lamp.) After applying the base coat, I applied three coats of neon green on all nails. Then, I applied a layer of glitter polish on my thumb and ring finger. I finished it off with a layer of top coat on all nails.

I first tried freehanding the clover, which I practiced on a paper plate. All of my attemps looked horrible so I scratched that idea. Then I tried with rhinestones, but that didn’t really work either. Then I found some heart-shaped glitters that I was going to arrange together, but I didn’t have any dark green ones. After that I gave up. Then, this morning I had an idea. So during lunch I grabbed some loose glitters, clear nail polish, and acrylic paint, and voilà!
