I’ve heard great things about using a Vitamin C serum in your skincare routine and it’s something I’ve always wanted to try. There are a lot of Vitamin C serums on the market with different concentrations and such so some research is required before deciding on a product. And since I never took the time to do the research, I never bought any. So I was extremely happy when I had the opportunity to try the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop ($23 US).
First off, let’s look at the ingredients.

Are you as surprised as I am at the number of ingredients in this serum?! At least the Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is the third ingredient and has a 5% concentration. This is a great introductory product to using a Vitamin C serum (some brands/products go up to 20%+).
Why is Vitamin C good for your skin?
When added to your daily routine, vitamin C provides a range of benefits, from evening out your skin tone, shielding skin from the visible impacts of pollution, significantly improving hydration, and keeping your skin looking younger, longer! (source)
Before I talk about how this product has worked for me so far I need to talk about the three things that affect my skin because they all come into play for this review: (1) what I put IN my body, (2) what I put ON my body, and (3) my hormones.
(1) What I eat greatly affects my skin. If I eat a lot of junk food and processed sugars then I get lots of bumps and breakouts; they pretty much go hand in hand. And December was crazy with all kinds of foods, and desserts galore, so things were not looking pretty.
(2) Using the right products for my face will also have a great impact on how it looks and feels. I have combination skin that is dehydrated, but it took a while for me to understand what my skin needed. For the longest time I used products for combo and oily skin and those actually dried me up. My face often felt tight and it just led to my face producing more sebum to compensate for the dryness. Although that did not lead to breakouts, it leads to bumpy skin and a gunky mess.
(3) And hormones… ah, hormones… The week before my period is when things start getting yucky. I’ll usually have a few breakouts and my overall face feels bumpy. Then this continues on the week of my period. However, the week AFTER my period my skin magically clears up; it’s usually free from blemishes and has a super smooth texture. The week after that it kinda starts getting ready for my PMS week again; it’s not as soft as the previous week, but it’s not breaking out and full of bumps yet.
And now back to our regular scheduled programming. 😛 I started using this Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop the week after my period because that’s when it arrived. So that was during my skin’s best week of the month.
The first two days I only used it at night to see if my skin would react to it, but it didn’t so since then I’ve been using it morning and night. This product is slightly oily but does not leave a greasy mess behind. I have not had any issues with dryness or irritation; my skin feels great.
Due to time requirements for my review, I have to publish now so I’ve only had twenty days to test it out. What I can say is that my face has remained the same since I started using this product; it’s been feeling its best all this time, yay! However, so has the rest of my body (I also get breakouts on my neck, shoulders, chest, and back). Yep, sucks to be me. I have been eating a lot better since the holidays are over so that’s obviously had an impact. And to note, I don’t take care of the rest of my body as I do with my face. I mean, yes I clean and moisturize, lol! But I don’t do it twice a day, nor do I use all the serums and creams that I use on my face. So, can I credit my skincare routine to the overall great health of my face? Not 100%. BUT, I can’t say that it hasn’t helped either, it’s too soon to tell.
All that to say that my face has been feeling amazing these past 20 days, but I can’t say with 100% guarantee that it was due to using this product.
I will be doing an updated post on my skincare routine in the coming months so at that point I’ll give an update on this serum’s performance.
