At the end of last summer, I saw a nail polish colour on the Zoya IG account and immediately shared it to my stories saying that I NEED THIS COLOUR! I bought it in October and it took me until last week to finally try it. I had plans to try it way earlier than this, but sometimes life just happens. So I present to you, Rachael. Let’s take a closer look at this beauty…
First, let’s talk about the brush… oh, the brush. As you can see in the picture below, it’s quite a small brush. When I applied the first coat to my nails, over a base coat, the brush did not want to fan out. I tried wiggling it, no go. I tried moving it up and down, no go. I tried swishing it from side to side, no go. WTF?!? It just did NOT want to fan out for me. Because of that, my first coat ended up being very patchy, uneven, and just all over the place. I was very frustrated and it made me careless. Time for the second coat… swoosh, immediate fan out. Really? REALLY??? At that point, I was just pissed off with the brush and ended up doing the messiest application EVER. My cuticles were flooded and cleaning them up took longer than doing my nails (reds are bitches that stain like nobody’s business). I actually took these pictures the following day after taking a shower and scrubbing my cuticles even more.
Anywho, back to Rachael. She is described as a full-coverage mulberry berry cream and I agree with that, although she is a bit darker on the nails than in the bottle. With a brush that fans out or a Z-Wide brush, she would be fully opaque with two coats. But because of the first coat problems I had to do three coats to reach full opacity. Rachael was this shiny on her own, but the finish just wasn’t quite as even as what a top coat can achieve so I added a top coat (I always do).
I snapped a picture in direct sunlight so you can see what she looks like in the wild. 😉
This is the kind of colour that makes my heart skip a beat, and my heart skips a beat every time I look at my nails.
Rachael made me struggle 😉 but it was all worth it in the end because I LOVE this colour! Next time I take her out though, it will be with a Z-Wide brush!!!
Have you tried this colour? Or the Z-Wide brush?
