Sesame Street 50th Anniversary × China Glaze Nail Polish Collection – Swatches and Review

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Sesame Street, can you believe it?! They started way back in 1969. That’s before I was born. 😉 In celebration they have partnered with China Glaze to create this collection that helps you celebrate with 12 sparkly hues that let you shine bright well into the new year. Let’s take a look, shall we?

All of these nail polishes are swatched with two coats and no topcoat. The coats are on the thicker side, especially for the glitter nail polishes, to get a good amount of glitter distribution on the nails.

50 Shimmering Years
This pink glitter will help sparkle your imagination—just like Sesame Street’s beloved characters have for the past 50 years.

This one is a clear base filled with rose gold micro glitters and small holo glitters. There is a good amount of glitter in the mix and there are no patches during application. It’s not fully opaque at two coats, but given its colour, I find that it still gives good coverage. It has a nice smooth finish on its own.

Giggling All The Way
Hee! Hee! Hee! Ho! Ho! Ho! You’re laughing all the way into the new year with this pink shimmer that makes spirits bright.

This pink shimmer is a bit foil-ish. It’s a bit streaky, but the streaks disappear as it dries. It has a nice smooth finish on its own.

On The Nice List
No mischief for this party monster! You know Santa will check his list—and this attention-grabbing red glitter—twice.

This one is a clear base filled with mini red bar glitters and micro red hex glitters. The glitter distribution is a bit patchy so I have to do many swipes to get an even distribution. This one would be better as a glitter topper over something opaque. It also dries bumpy so it would benefit from a topcoat to smooth things out.

Gift Fur You
May your days be furry & bright (this magenta glitter can help with the latter)!

This one is another clear base and it’s filled with micro, mini, and small magenta hex glitters. It’s also patchy and I had to fill in a few spots. Like On The Nice List, it would work better as a glitter topper and would benefit from a topcoat as it dries bumpy.

Fa-La-Ah-Ah-Ahhh!
Deck your nails for countless parties with this decadent purple-gold shimmer.

This one has a purple base with golden shimmer in it. It’s fully opaque with two coats and has a nice smooth finish on its own.

#THISISMYSTREET
Take the party to the streets—the Sesame Streets, that is—with this brown holographic glitter that’s worthy of an epic celebration.

This one is described as a brown holo, but it doesn’t lean brown for me, it’s straight-up holo glitters (in mini and medium sizes) in a clear base. It’s a bit patchy and has a bumpy finish, so this is another one that would work best as a glitter topper and benefit from a topcoat.

Me Ate Santa’s Cookies
Bite cookies, not nails! Trust us, you’re not gonna want to (chocolate) chip this beautiful blue shimmer.

This one feels and acts like a metallic for me, you can even see the streaks; they don’t go away once dry. But it does have a nice smooth finish on its own.

Brought To You By…
The real teal! Brought to you by the letters I-R-L, this shimmery blue-green shade will make your world look brighter.

To me, this is emerald green. The finish feels foil-ish and is a bit streaky, but the streaks disappear as it dries. It has a nice smooth finish on its own.

A Grouchy New Year
You go, grouch! A swipe of this green glitter is the extra boost you need to put a lid on any self-doubt in the new year.

This one has a clear base that is filled with micro and small green hex glitters, and medium holo glitters. It’s patchy so I have to work to get an even distribution. It also dries bumpy. It’s another one for the glitter topper and topcoat team.

Cele-Bert
Bert and this lime green shade with shimmery flecks are very serious about celebrating the New Year in style.

Another clear base! This one has micro, mini, and small lime green hex glitters. It has a good density of glitters and a good distribution; a third coat would most likely make it near opaque. It also has a nice smooth finish on its own.

T Is For Tinsel
Tinsel starts with “T”—and the party starts with this silver rainbow glitter!

Another clear base and this one is jam-packed with micro, mini, and small silver/holo hex glitters. It’s almost fully opaque with two coats and it has a nice smooth finish on its own.

Since 1969
Forever young! Just like Sesame Street, this gunmetal glitter will remain fresh year after year.

This one has a semi-sheer gunmetal base filled with silver/gunmetal hex glitters (micro, mini, small). This one is fully opaque with two coats and has a nice smooth finish.

Now, this is how you make a holiday collection, FULL OF GLITTERS! Ok, so they’re not all glitter bombs as some are better suited as glitter toppers, but still, those are such an easy way to add sparkle and oomph to your mani. You can also make the glitter toppers fully opaque by using the sponge method to apply them. The sponge will absorb the clear base so you get more glitters without getting your nails super thick and goopy.

Overall I do like most of these, but my favourites in this collection are 50 Shimmering Years (rose gold), T Is For Tinsel (silver bomb), and Since 1969 (gunmetal). And I don’t usually go for green nail polishes, but Brought To You By… is gorgeous!
