The Body Shop‘s Drops of Youth collection is meant to help tackle the first signs of ageing, and while it had almost every product you need to do a complete face care regimen, it was missing a few key products: a cleanser and an eye moisturizer (although it has an eye serum). This year they filled in those gaps by adding a Gentle Foaming Wash ($20 CAD) and a Bouncy Eye Mask ($32 CAD) to the collection, and today I’m sharing both these new products with you.

Drops of Youth Gentle Foaming Wash
Enriched with plant stem cells, our instantly foaming face wash upon rinse-off leaves skin fresh and replenished. The youth-enhancing formula thoroughly cleanses the skin without drying, leaving your skin feeling smoother, softer and renewed.
This is a foaming face wash and two pumps give you the right amount of product to wash your entire face. It has a fresh scent that I can’t quite put my finger on. There’s a hint of citrus, but it’s not a full citrusy scent. It’s very pleasant and not overwhelming.
Before I say anything else I need to talk about my face cleansing routine. I always do a two-step process and the first step is a pre-cleanse/makeup removal with micellar water on a cotton pad, and step two is using a cleanser. As I’m writing this review I realize that I never tried washing my face using ONLY this cleanser so my experience is based on using it as step two.
That being said, my face feels clean after I’m done. It does feel a little bit dry and tight (most cleansers do that to my face) so I can’t waste too much time before following up with a toner, but the cotton pad that I use to apply my toner comes up clean; it never picks up any leftover makeup residue (meaning that there is none 😉 ).
I’ve also used this cleanser with an electric face cleaning device and it works great. I spread the cleanser all over my face then proceed to clean with the device. It works like a charm.
Drops of Youth Bouncy Eye Mask
Enriched with cucumber extract and plant stem cells, our Youth Bouncy Eye Mask can be applied to instantly give tired eyes a powernap*, or used as an overnight mask to wake up with skin that looks younger and feels healthier. This refreshing, non-sticky formula helps address the first signs of aging to help skin bounce back to a more youthful appearance.
*The product helps to depuff bag under eyes, signs of fatigue appear reduced, dark circle under my eyes are faded.
This eye mask has a gel consistency that doesn’t really “stick” to my finger the first time I put it in the pot so I gently tap the product with my finger for a few seconds. It’s like the product needs to melt a bit before it’ll “latch” on to my finger. I’m not a huge fan of the container though and much prefer pump bottles or tubes that you squeeze.
This product has a scent, but I can’t quite say what it smells like. It’s very fresh and quite faint. I really only smell it if I put it up to my nose; I never notice it when applying it.
The product spreads easily around the eye area and is very moisturizing, but that’s about the only good thing I can say about it, unfortunately. I’ve been using this product daily as my moisturizer (morning & night) and from the very start, I could tell that the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes were more prominent. Initially, I ignored that because since I had just switched product I figured that I needed to give this new one time to do its thing. After over four weeks of daily use things were not improving so I switched back to my other eye moisturizer (and I’m happy to say that things are looking much better).
Final Thoughts
The Gentle Foaming Wash works great, but face cleansers, in general, is one area where I’ve never really been loyal to a specific one. I’ve never noticed any real change/improvement in skin texture from a cleanser; that usually comes from the products I apply after cleansing. If a cleanser works well without doing any harm to my face then I’m all set, and this one fits the bill. If you like trying new products, or if you’re currently using the Drops of Youth collection and you like to keep all your products from the same collection, then yes, definitely give this one a try.
And while I rarely notice any improvements in my skin when trying new products, I actually noticed a negative effect around my eyes while using the Bouncy Eye Mask so this is not a product that I will be revisiting in the future.
